Hungary Tax Authority put focus on the incorrect real-time data reporting

As of October 2021, the Hungarian Tax Authority (HTA) will regularly inform reporting agents who submit unsuccessful or incorrect returns.

The HTA's aim is to improve the quality of data provided by taxpayers on invoices issued. As these data services will form the basis of the future draft eVAT assessment, it is important that the taxpayers' data are correct (this is the main reason for the difficulties in the VAT assessment).

According to the HTA, enquiries about incorrect reporting will always be related to a specific type of problem and will affect a different set of taxpayers. So, this does not mean that if we do not receive information from the HTA in October 2021, our company's real-time invoice reporting will be fine. The letters will be delivered by the HTA to the electronic storage of the client or its representative.

An important new feature is that, in addition to/instead of taxpayers, the HTA will also specifically contact software developers to correct errors as soon as possible. Those software developers whose tax number appears as the developer's tax number (softwareDevTaxNumber element) in the failed reporting attempts in August 2021 will also be contacted electronically. Therefore, taxpayers are advised to check this data to ensure that in the future the HTA can contact the developer instead of the taxpayer in case of a specific software error.

It is also clear from the above how important it is for companies to get an accurate picture of the quality of their data provision before the HTA contacting them. VGD Hungary's Digitalisation Solutions and IT-Tax consulting team is at the disposal of our customers in detecting these discrepancies, formulating corrective steps and accurately determining the error.
